For our romantic weekend, we’re looking for a natural destination, less than 2 hours from Lyon.
Our goal: to relax, switch off and enjoy the great outdoors.
Our dream came true at the Domaine de la Dombes!
With cabins in the trees, floating on the water or in the middle of a wildlife park, there’s no lack of choice when it comes to accommodation. For us, it’ll be a floating cabin on the Domaine’s central pond – how romantic is that?
A little paradise in a lovely green setting
After only a short hour’s drive, we arrive at the Domaine de la Dombes.
The setting gives us an instant sense of calm. The greenery, the swimming pool, the sandy beach and straw huts, the animals, the cabins, the pond, everything invites us to relax!
After a quick hello to Aglaé and Sidonie, the Domaine’s guard geese, we set off with our gear (life jackets, oars and backpacks) in the direction of the pond, where our rowboat awaits… and yes, we’ll have to row to reach our cabin!
A relaxing weekend always includes a bit of sport. Besides, who has never dreamt of a romantic rowboat ride?
An unforgettable moment
After settling into our little cocoon, we head for the terrace, where our first impression is of being … alone in the world!
The view is superb and it’s overwhelmingly peaceful! The highlight of the evening? Dinner for two on the terrace (Champagne picnic, if you please!) and a view of the magnificent sunset!

After a good night’s sleep, lulled by the movement of the water, we are gently awakened by the song of the birds around us.
We wake up to another superb sight.
We enjoy our breakfast, delivered to our door by rowboat, and are ready to take advantage of the many activities available on the estate.
Accrobranche adventure trail, nursery, quadracycles, animal parks, mini-golf, hiking, cycling, swimming, spa…. Not sure a weekend will be enough after all!
Next time, we’ll be back with the kids to stay in the treehouse, perched above the bison! Or why not another romantic weekend in the cabin surrounded by deer?
