The Ponds of Sensitive Natural Areas

The Ain Department aims to label 40 sites as Sensitive Natural Areas (ENS). True natural gems of the Ain Department, these sites consist of very diverse environments, representing a total area of over 10,000 hectares.
In our region, 5 ponds are labeled.

The Dombes with a thousand ponds

The Dombes, a plateau with “a thousand ponds”, is identified by its typical landscapes resulting from geological characteristics and human activities. As one of the largest freshwater areas in France and Europe, this territory offers a beauty of environments and a remarkable diversity of animal and plant species: birds, but not only…

The labeled ponds provide an opportunity to better understand and discover these exceptional treasures.
