8 km walk in Dombes
Hike starting from Monthieux church.
Stage 1
Walk around the church and cross the departmental road to reach the rue de la Croix opposite.
At the intersection, at the end of the housing estate, continue straight on the dirt road.
Upon reaching another intersection with a directional post, turn right, towards Montant.
Stage 2
Continue on this path which then turns into a paved road. At the intersection with a dirt road, stay on the paved road, then a few meters further, at the next intersection, continue straight on rue du Maréage.
Then take the dirt road that goes up, then at the directional post, turn right towards Lombouet.

Stage 3
A hundred meters further, at the directional post, take the dirt road towards “Bois Volet.”
Cross the departmental road and continue straight. Leave on your left a first pond (the rat pond) and continue into the wood.
Be very careful when crossing the departmental road!
Stage 4
At the directional post, turn left to reach Grange Volet pond and its observatory.
Return to the same directional post and continue straight, towards Monthieux.
Please keep your pets on a leash, the Sensitive Natural Area of Vernange is home to many nests on the edge of the pond.
Stage 5
Follow the path with Vernange pond on the left, to the place called “Mion.” Turn right and follow the road to the village.
At the village pond turn left to return to the starting point.
